The history of fast food and how it has changed-By Adrian

The history of fast food and how it changed
The brethren Richard und Maurice McDonald opened their first McDonald´s restaurant 79 years ago. Anyway fast food is more popular than ever before.
And as you can get it today burgers and french fries were already the bestsellers of every fast food restaurant. But how did fast food changed in the last 79 years?

The history of Fast Food already began 200 years before Christ. Many people hadn’t the possibility to cook their food themselves so they had to go to a so called “popina” which was a kitchen where the normal people ordered mostly mush.
About 600 years ago the first sausage stand was opened in Germany to supply construction workers. Credits: https://www.zeit.de/2015/20/fast-food-erfindung-ursprung-geschichte)
When the first modern fast food restaurant was opened they had to have a very small offer to be able to serve everyone. So the only things you were able to order were hamburgers, cheeseburgers, French fries and a kind of dessert.
Today every fast food restaurant has many different kind of burgers and nuggets. Partially they have over thirty different burgers and about 20 different types of desserts or sweets. Additionally a big difference compared to the first fast food restaurants is that they open all day. You can eat there at any time of the day suitable food even at night. In the morning you can eat breakfast. In the lunchtime burgers and co., in the afternoon cookies and if you want to have something sweet in the evening you are able to get sweets and desserts like milkshakes or ice cream there. So in my opinion that is one of the reasons why fast food restaurants grown up that far in the last 20 years. Because the customers are able to supply themselves with food all day long. One example for that expansion is Subway. That concern had in 1990 about 5,000 stores. 21 years later so in 2011 it had about 35,000 stores and 5 years later so in 2016 it had about 45,000 stores. Another example for that is Starbucks. In the year 2000 Starbucks had 3,500 stores. 16 years later in 2016 they had about 24,000 stores Credits: https://www.bpb.de/nachschlagen/zahlen-und-fakten/globalisierung/256161/themengrafik-fast-food).

In conclusion you can clearly see that the fast food industry developed in the last 40 years very much. The reasons for that are the fact that you can eat there almost around the clock and the fact that you can eat it everywhere with a big choice of different types of fast food.

  1. I really enjoy reading your blog because of the great explanation of your topic. It's really fascinating how the fast food has developed in the past and that the start of fast food was that early in time. No wonder that all the people get fatter over the years if the offer in fast food restaurants changed that much. You really expressed your ideas clearly and complete so I can understand your blog very easily and don't have to think about the meaning to much. In my opinion it's frightening what an increase the fast food restaurants from your examples have made in the last years. I was particularly touched by the numbers you mentioned in your examples. One might say that you can address the reader in your conclusion a little bit more maybe with a question, but I think you've done a great job even without this obtrusiveness. In conclusion it was a really interesting and informing text with worth knowing information about the history of fast food. -Henri-
